Consumerism #3

Hello lovelies!

Guys, I think I need help. Let's just start with that, and pray that my mom doesn't see this post (or my bank statements). To be clear, it is my money, but the little voice in my head that says "No, you shouldn't do this" just happens to sound a lot like my mom. And even though my bank account doesn't agree, a little beauty haul never hurt anybody.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette: First of, guys, how uhh-mazing is this packaging! This limited edition palette had been roaming around the beauty circuit for a while, and since it's back by popular demand, I had to pick it up. It has three ambient lighting powders: Dim Light, Radiant Light, and Incandescent Light. If you don't now by now, these Hourglass powders are specifically known for their light reflecting qualities to make skin look luminous and lit form within.

Sephora Favorites: Draw The Line: I love when Sephora comes out with these values packs because they are a great way of testing out lots of products at once (for a reduced price). It comes with five deluxe sized samples (Stila, Kat Von D, NARS, Marc Jacobs, & Sephora Collection) and one full size Urban Decay double ended liner (which pays for the whole set). Now to be honest, half of the liners I've already tried before, but since I know I loved them and I'm running low, I figured this was a great way to stock up. So, now I not only have back ups for some of my favorites like the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner and the Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon, but I also get to try new ones like the NARS Longwear Liner and the Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil. Great value for money if you are looking to try new eyeliners, but I would hurry if I were you because they don't keep them around for long.

First Aid Beauty Eye Duty Triple Remedy: This (along with the next item) has been on my beauty wish list for a while now (evidence here). Essentially, it's a morning eye treatment to help de-puff and cover up dark circles. I love the cooling feeling of metal tip, it reminds me of the Clinique All About Eyes Serum , and since it's a salmon color, it does help disguise dark circles.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Foundation: I've had my eye on for a while, and I'm very pleased with the formula. It's a kind of mousse texture, which provides great coverage but without feeling heavy on the skin. Even so, I had to go back and pick up a new shade because I needed one a tad bit yellower #oliveskinproblems. Hopefully I have found the perfect shade and you will hear me rave about it for months to come. Fingers crossed.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Illuminating Moisture Cream: I wasn't planning on picking up ( I usually never do), but hey when The Body Shop has a buy one get one 50% off you can't just walk away, so carpe diem. I figured this would come in handy now that we're getting closer to the colder months and my skin is starting to look a bit dull. I thought it would be great to pair underneath the Tarte Foundation, which is matte (for my oily skin), and that way I have the best of both worlds: Oil under control, yet luminous skin.

The Body Shop Camomile Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover: I decided to purchase with the hopes it works just as good as my trusty Clarins Instant Eye Makeup Remover, which is thee best for waterproof mascara, but a little too pricy. Like the Clarins, you have to shake it up so that the two layers (oil and water) mix together and are ready to tackle that pesky-hard-to-remove eye makeup.

Hopefully my beauty purchase craving has been quenched after this haul (pffft, yeah right)! Please let me know in the comments if you've tried any of the products mentioned and how they've worked for you. To close out today's post I want to apologize if I've enabled you to spend all your pennies on makeup (like me), but we all know it's well worth it.

Nude-Gray for Fall

Hello lovelies!

I'm the type of gal that changes nail polish color at least twice a week, but every now and then I find myself going back to the same polish non-stop. Enter the L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Nail "Eiffel For You". For starters, I'm a sucker for cute/cheesy nail polish names, and I must say this one is top five. More importantly, I am completely in LOVE (yes, Caps Lock for emphasis) with this nude-gray shade! I think it's the perfect neutral-grown-up shade, and I adore how it looks with my skin tone. To top it off, I also really like the brush: thick and sturdy, as well as the formula: opaque, long lasting, and glossy/shiny finish (no top coat necessary, although I can't help myself). I have a feeling my obsession with this color will last well through the fall, and maybe even transfer over to my wardrobe.

Which will be your signature nail color for the fall? Let me know in the comments.

Dupe ALERT!

Hello lovelies!

Part of being a beauty hoarder means "accidentally" buying the same product thinking at the time: "But it is so different from the one I already have". I take comfort in knowing that 1) I'm not alone  and 2) I might find a more affordable alternative to a pricy product I end up loving and constantly repurchase. Case in point the Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon- "Brown(Out)" and it's more affordable (yet not as beautifully packaged) twin the Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Eyeliner- "Brown".

I love using brown/bronze pencil liners when I want to go for a more natural, easy look. Plus, I find that they make my lashes look fuller than when I use black liner. Both of them have an amazing, creamy-stay-all-day consistency. When I say 'creamy', I mean these puppies glide on like butter while also offering ample time to smudge them out, and once they set they won't budge. What I love most about these is that they both have a slight golden shimmer, which adds "a little something extra" (guess the famous movie line) and brightness.

The only two differences I've found, is that the the Rimmel liner is slightly (barely) more red toned, and that it needs to be sharpened, while the Marc Jacobs is a true brown and a twist up.

What would you do? Splurge or Save?

Interview Beauty

Hello lovelies!

As I am sure you know by now, I have recently move to New York, and although I do have my savings, it was never my intention to live off that, so as soon as I landed the job hunt was on! A week in, and I landed my first NYC job. Now, even though it's not in the Condé Nast building, it is in the way-über-trendier-than-me Soho. And I'm not stating that my outfit or makeup were the main reasons why I got the job, but I still wanted to dedicate a post on the subject and include a few tips on interview approved makeup.

1. Don't try anything new or crazy. Stick to your fool proof products and looks because the last thing you need to worry about is if that new concealer is fading (revealing any blemishes) or if that new lipstick is bleeding (or even worse, stuck to your teeth).

2. Perfect your base. Instead of focusing on a really dramatic/smoky eye, I really like to take the time to prime my face with the Benefit POREfessional and blend out my foundation perfectly. I use a buildable, yet non-caky base, like the Chanel Vitalumiére Aqua or Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer, just in case I feel like adding a second layer for more coverage. Then, I go in with my trusty concealer (yeah, you know the one!) and instead of just slapping it on, I use a small brush to pin-point conceal (a la Lisa Eldridge) any blemishes, redness, and of course my dark circles, which I can't allow to see the light of day. Next, I make sure to set everything with a translucent powder because I'm sure nobody wants to hire a grease-ball. Finally, add a subtle tone blush (don't get all Steven King IT) and complexion done!

3. Tone down the eyes. Every work environment is different, but always professional; if not, then that's not a job worth having. Try to use matte (or satin) finish neutral shadows, like the ones in the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette (and they just came out with the second one!) or the Milani Bella Eyes Single Eyeshadows. I know they're very irresistible, but avoid overly shimmery shadows.

-Apply a medium toned matte brown on the crease and outer conner with a fluffy blending brush like the Sigma E25 to add depth. Then, pat in a matte or satin finish champagne (or a shade as close to your lid color as possible) with a dense brush on the center and inner lid. Finally, give everything one final blend with a clean blending brush(when it comes to shadows blending is key).

-Do not (I repeat DO NOT) attempt to do a cat-eye unless you've got your technique down. You'll just get frustrated (the last thing you need before an interview) because it won't turn out the way you want, and perhaps even ruin your eyeshadow. Instead, go for a simple, no muss no fuss line to define the lashes and lots of voluminous mascara. If you do have your cat eye down (you go Glen Coco!), I'd recommend the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner. The great thing about it, other than it's über easy and stays put all day, is that it comes in so many colors! You can go for the classic black, or tone it down slightly with a brown. You can also go for a  liner like the Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon and smudge it out to a cat eye with an angled brush. This way you still achieve your cat eye, but with a less harsh line. You can try both these liners, plus four more including NARS and Urban Decay, for $30 if you shop the Sephora Draw the Line value set!

-Last but certainly not least, finish off with natural looking brows. You don't have to go all Cara Delevingne, but my dynamic duo for polished brows would have to be the Anastasia Brow Wiz followed by the Benefit Gimme Brow Gel.

4. The Lips. Even though I myself am sometimes torn between reaching for my Sephora Matte Lip Cream, a classic red, or a nude, I always go for the nude. Although a red can be very beautiful and eye catching, personally, I feel that it's best reserved perhaps for a second interview or a first day. A nude, like MAC Kinda SexyVelvet Teddy, or even Patisserie,  will go perfectly with your simple eye, and won't distract from what you are saying throughout the interview. If you still feel the need to go for a red, go for  more toned down red like NARS Lip Pencil 'Walkyrie'. You can also go for a lip liner like (you guessed it!) MAC Whirl with a matte lip balm on top.

5. The Hair. Needless to say you should go in with freshly clean locks, or at the very least make sure they don't look greasy by using a dry shampoo. As far as a hairdo, you can be a little more inventive/creative than with your make up. Even so, if you are someone who tends to play with their hair a lot (especially when you are nervous), I'd recommend having it tied up. Whether it's a sleek pony tail, french braid, or bun, make sure your hair is out of the way; this way you are not constantly touching it or worried about how it looks and instead are concentrated on the questions. To be honest, I'm not the best at hairstyles, but HeyKayli has you covered!

Now that your makeup and hair are covered, and you are feeling pretty/comfortable, you can focus on what's important: convincing your interviewer that you're the best person for the job! Remember to stay calm and collected. A little bit of nerves is good, but too much can make you mumble your words and make you seem unprepared. Just relax and let your personality knock them off their socks!

I hope today's post was helpful in some way because I know first hand how terrifying interviews can be. Let me know in the comments how you get ready for an interview and if you have any more tips to add on to today's post!

Empties #2

Hello lovelies!
Aloha, Bonjour, Ciao, Hello from New York! For the sake of continuing the empties post series or maybe to save room in my suitcase, I finished up a fair few products before leaving. I should perhaps call this post "hair empties", since more than half the products I went through were hair care items. But very little babbling today (lucky you), so let's get this show on the road.

Batiste Dry Shampoo: Comes as no surprise seeing that I go through this more than underwear (not really, don't think I'm gross). My favorite dry shampoo, which of course you know since it is a regular on the blog. It is needless to say that I've already repurchased another as you are reading this.

Dove Dry Shampoo: I want to like as much as the Batiste because I love the scent and it does do a good job at absorbing oil, but it leaves behind way too much residue. On top of that, I find that if I use it too much it leaves my scalp very itchy and flaky. Unfortunately the scent is not enough compensate for the white cast. Will not be repurchasing.

L'Oreal Sleek It Strand Smoother Serum Spray: Has been my favorite recent hair find! If my hair is looking dull and dry, I spritz this all over (root to tip because it doesn't cause build up) and it gives instant shine/life. I find that, on me at least, it really helps keep le frizz situation under control, plus it has a really nice scent. I finished up my first bottle a little while ago, but didn't repurchase right away, and I noticed a MAJOR (Rachel Zoe voice for emphasis) difference. I had to run to the drugstore and pick up another one, so consider this a definite repurchase.

Living Proof Flex Shaping Spray: I enjoyed using and the mini size is not only cheaper (a nice way to try pricier products) but also very convenient to carry around. It's a light hold hairspray, perhaps not the best to hold curls, but perfect for keeping any fly aways in place without making your hair feel like straw. Like I said, I did like it, but I didn't love it; so I won't be repurchasing any time soon, especially since the TRESemme Hairspray does the same thing.

Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm: I discovered over six months ago thanks to the lovely Tanya Burr and have loved ever since. It's the most "bank for my money" beauty product I've ever purchased, and amazing at removing all my makeup. If you've never used a cleansing balm, this is a great one to start off with, plus at $28.50 it's not ridiculously expensive. Currently I'm using a Clarins cleansing balm, so although I will repurchase, I'm going to finish off that one before I do.

Anastasia Brow Wiz: My favorite brow product by far! It has a very small/thin nib to really get into the brows, and make them look natural. Since I featured it in my Forever Repurchase, post it should come as no surprise that I've already repurchased.

Maybelline The Rocket Mascara: I finally finished up after reaching for the L'Oreal Butterfly non-top.  Unlike a lot of gals, I actually like a plastic mascara wand. I find this one gives more volume than length, while the L'Oreal Butterfly gives both, so I don't think I'll be repurchasing anytime soon.

Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream:  Yet another one finished, and yet another one repurchased. You guys know this is my favorite moisturizer all year round, rain or shine, and no matter how my skin is behaving. A super creamy/hydrating formula, yet very lightweight.

Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder: Has been my go-to setting powder for a while now. It's a very lightweight formula that does wonders (pun intended) at giving the skin that airbrushed, almost blurred out finish. It keeps my (recently) oily skin at bay throughout the day, without overly mattifying the face.

Fleure Scent Rollerball Perfume "Neon Rose": Smells so uhh-mazing! It's not to flowery, or too sweet, or too musky. It's the perfect neutral, clean, fresh scent to carry around with you just in case you start to feel/smell funky during the day.

Well my beauties, there you have a little peek at a beauty hoarder's trash. I cannot end this post without a massive THANK YOU for all the wonderful thoughts and support about my move. It honestly means the world to me to have such amazing people in my corner, and a ''thank you" in caps lock really doesn't cover it! I hope you enjoyed today's post, and don't forget to go follow me on my social media to see what I really get up to when I'm not sitting with my laptop.

The BIG Move

Hello lovelies!

Remember when I told you few posts back that I had some news to share? Well, I moved to New York! I've been planning to do this for a while (a looong time), and a few months back I finally bought my one way ticket.

I'm probably on a plane (or already in NY) as you're reading this, but I still really wanted to share my news because I don't think I've ever been so excited/terrified. Excited to start a new life, but most importantly a new career, yet terrified because I am extremely attached to my family and the most I've been away from them is six months. I'm the girl that visits her grandparents religiously every Sunday (their house is my church), and knowing that I'm all on my own and won't get to see my family kills me. Even so, I'm lucky that they are incredibly supportive and believe that I can achieve all that I want to accomplish. When you live in a city like New York and start to doubt yourself and your capabilities, it's nice to have people on your corner to motivate you and tell you "You can do it!"

Sorry today's post wasn't beauty related, but again, I really wanted to share my news. And if I have anyone from New York reading this...Don't be shy and email/inbox me (links below)!

Forever Repurchase

Hello lovelies!

Every girl has that holy grail product. You know, the product that makes you have a mini heart attack if you can't find it because you don't know how you are going to survive the day without it. You repurchase it again and again; or if you're like me you even have back ups of it, just in case... So for today's post I wanted to share with you some of my holy grail products, at least the ones that I've repurchased more than twice (so you know how much I love!).
- Anastasia Brow Wiz: By far the only brow product I ever want to use. I know that there are powders, pomades, and a million other choices, but this is brow perfection for me. It has the thinnest nib, perfect for creating the illusion of small hairs to make brows look fuller, and in my case also helps elongate. The color 'Ebony' is perfect for me, it comes with a handy spooly at the other end to brush through the brows, and the formula stays put all day even if I don't use a brow gel.
- NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer: I think I've lost count of how many times I've repurchased this. It's the all round perfect concealer: it's pigmented enough to cover my dark circles, it's creamy enough to blend with my fingers, it brightens/highlights, covers blemishes, and doesn't crease on me.
- L'Oreal True Match Foundation: So far in my beauty journey, this is the only foundation I've ever repurchased. The thing with me and foundations is that there are so many out there, that I'm constantly trying different ones. Even so, when I need/want something with medium to full coverage that I can always count on to look flawless, this is it! It's the perfect balance between matte and dewy, lasts very well through out the day, and it's drugstore, so I can still pay for gas. Ten thumbs up (if I had ten thumbs).
- L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara: If you've been following my blog, you might remember me saying that I'm not attached to any one mascara (again, there are too many good ones), but this one made me throw all that non sense out the window! I've bought it three times already on account that I've never received so many compliments about my lashes, evah! Even my sister, Kiara, noticed and trust me when I say this girl is not one to hand out compliments lightly. "Butterfly" indeed since it makes my lashes look fluttery, full, and long without making them look spidery (not really my thing).
- Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion: I've been loyal to for years! I have ultra sensitive skin, and Cetaphil is the only brand I trust when it comes to soap and body lotions because it doesn't make my skin flare up. It's colorless, scentless, very lightweight, yet very creamy and moisturizing. What more can I say, except that I use it every single day and will continue to do so 'til the day I die (no jokes).
- Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream: I won't even go into much detail because I've mentioned it on my blog, oh about...50 times! It's pretty much the Cetaphil equivalent, but for the face, and my favorite moisturizer, period.
- Batiste Dry Shampoo: I am a lazy bum when it comes to my hair, because every time I wash means that I have to blow dry, so anything that can help me avoid that for as long as possible is my BFF (FF). That said, I always seem to come back to this one no matter how many other dry shampoos I try (including high end ones). I find it works the best at refreshing my greasy locks and adding a much needed flowery scent.
- Revlon Base Coat: Was the first base coat I ever bought, and since it did such an amazing job, I never bothered to try a different one. It really makes a difference with the whole chipping-while-opening-a-soda situation, and I definitely notice a difference when I don't use it.
- Pleasures by Estee Lauder Perfume: Has been my 'signature' scent for nine years now. I used to be a waitress, and I remember so many people from work and clients would constantly ask me what perfume I was wearing, and it was always this. Sometimes my friends know when I arrive somewhere before they even see me because they smell it, and if I even try to use something different they say "You don't smell like yourself, no!" It is a very feminine, flowery scent; so if you're looking for a new perfume and that sounds like something up your alley, go give it a try. But be warned, we can no longer be friends because, not to be a *bee-otch*, but I don't like it when my peeps use the same perfume as me (at least not this one).

Let me know in the comments which are some of your holy grail, can't live without them, products.

August Favorites

Hello lovelies!
Summer is officially ovah people! And sorry to say it, but good riddance. I'm probably the only person in the world that doesn't like summer. I'm not a hot weather fan (I practically live in the movie theatre during this season), I don't really love the beach, and I'm going to stop right there before you think I've completely lost my mind. On a good note though, I have some great beauty and non beauty finds from this month and I'm so excited to share them with you in today's post! I am also so happy we're entering fall, my favorite, especially because there's a major life change in the books for me coming soon (which I'll share very soon)! But for now, on with the favorites!

Beauty
A few posts back I shared some of my current favorites, which I am still loving, but never fear because, of course, I have more!
- Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel: "Pure Melt" how gorgeous does that sound for removing your makeup at the end of a long day: just "melts your makeup away" (swooning moment over). I picked this up because I was running out of my trusty Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm, and wanted to try something new in the cleansing balm spectrum. This one is a gel formula, but turns into an oil as you keep massaging in. It does an amazing job at breaking down all my makeup, including mascara, and then I just wipe it all off with a warm, wet towel. It has quite a heavy grandma-scent, which I personally don't mind because it, well, reminds of my grandma; and it does leave behind a little bit of an oily residue, which means it's great for dry/combination skin, but I would stay clear if you have really oily skin.
- NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in Himalia: Ohh-em-gee, this shadow is thebombdotcom! I got this whilst in Spehora with my best friend, and as soon as I swatched it on my hand we looked at each other with the biggest eyes as if to say "what is this magic?!" The shade itself is like nothing I own and can barely describe: a neutral shimmer taupe with teeny tiny silver and pink glitter (although it doesn't look like it in the pan or picture). I have no words for how beautiful and incredibly pigmented this shadow is, and I honestly believe it would compliment any skin tone and eye color. I've been applying it with my finger (that's how rich it is), then add a little bit of liner for definition, some mascara, and done! And when paired with my next favorite, it goes from show stopping shimmer to badass metallic. The only drawback: it's most definitely a splurge item. I mean, $30 for a single eyeshadow is very pricy (I think that's why they added a little mirror), but if you are looking for a statement eyeshadow to wear day or night, dry or wet, I would take a look at this NARS range.

- MAC Fix+ : Liquid perfection in a bottle! You can intensify the color of any eye shadow with one spritz of this on your brush. As a mentioned before, I've been using this with my NARS eye shadow when I want a more metallic finish, but I also use it as a makeup setting spray, so that my makeup blends together seamlessly and wears better through out the day. A fantastic, multi-purpose product to have around, and not that pricy at all for how great it is, plus it smells amazing!
- L'Oreal RevitaLift Miracle Blur: I have to be honest, I wasn't I big fan of at first because of its very silicone-y texture and its hefty price tag. Less is definitely more with this primer, but after working it into the skin, it really does create a smooth, perfect surface that helps makeup go on and look perfect. Instagram filter in a bottle.
- Marc Jacobs Nail Lacquer in 'Petra' : Has been my go-to nail polish this month. It goes on super opaque, and I mean one-coat-is-enough opaque, and dries fast, which is perfect for when I'm in a hurry but  have to paint my nails because I feel naked without nail polish. It's a bronzy-shimmery color (visual here) so it goes well with any outfit choice.
- MAC 'Whirl' Lip Liner: Is the first lip pencil I have ever bought (shocker, I know!) With that said, this is the Brad Pitt of lip liners as it goes with everything, and it has not left my purse or lips since I got it (if only that were true with Brad). It's the perfect rosy-nude for an everyday, no muss no fuss lip, and it can be paired with a lipstick (such as my next favorite), or used on its own with a little bit of lip balm (my preferred choice). If you want sultry Kylie-Angelina lips, look no further!
- MAC 'Velvet Teddy' Lipstick: Is not only the prefect nude to pair with 'Whirl', but the perfect nude in general. It's a matte formula, but ultra creamy so you don't have to worry about heavy, dry lips. If you are looking for a very easy to throw on, "better-than-your-lips-color" nude I would definitely go and check this one out.
-  Scünci No-Slip Ponytailers: Very random find and purchase, but very useful for my fine (as in ridiculously thin) hair. Elastic hair ties always stretch out and basically do nothing for me when they do, but since these are rubber there is no stretching, but most importantly they have extra-no-slip hold. One of my biggest pet peeves is when girls use colored hair ties instead of one that kind of matches their hair color: Don't know why, I wish I could explain, but I just hate it! With that said, the pack I picked up has both black and clear ties, so there is no excuse.

Non Beauty
Like I said before, I've been living in the movie theatre lately (I try to go at least once a week), and I have a few notable mentions.
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Not your typical superhero movie (in good way). Special effects and make-up are amazing, and I don't know what I loved most: the music, Chris Pratt's abs (who knew?!), the guy from Stepbrothers, or the cute little baby tree.
- Magic in the Moonlight: Another  parisian film from Woody Allen. Set in the 1920s, visually, this movie is beautiful from the costume design to the  southern french countryside landscape. Not to mention, funny-witty script (no shock there) and brilliant acting from can-do-no wrong Emma Stone, and Colin Firth. Even though in my book it doesn't beat Manhattan or Midnight in Paris, it's still one to watch.
- Sabrina (1995): One of my all time favorite movies (ever) and lately I've been watching it non-stop thanks to Netflix. I know I would be so much cooler if I liked the original version with Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart more, but there's something about Julia Ormond that I find so intriguing; perhaps it's her soft, sultry voice and perfect red lip.
- The Giver (book and film): Probably my favorite favorite of this month. I remember reading, and loving, the book in the 6th grade; so naturally I re-read it when I heard there was a film coming out. So glad I did! This time around I found new themes, metaphors, references, and many other fancy literary concepts I, of course, couldn't see or understand as a twelve year old. Great young adult utopian/dystopian novel. I liked the film just as much even though there were several differences. But I was very happy to see well-seasoned actors such as Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges, as well as young new comers like too-pretty-for-words Odeya Rush, and Brenton Thwaites. I only wish they had made this movie sooner, given that the book has been around for way longer than others, such as the Divergent and Hunger Games trilogy.

As for TV, I finally joined the Orphan Black band wagon. Where do people come up with these shows?! Kudos to the creators, Graeme Manson and John Fawcett, but most of all to the brilliant Tatiana Maslany. The show itself is about how a group of clones deal with the fact that they are, well, clones, and how they work together, despite their very very different lives, to learn who created them and why. Uhh-mazing show, and I highly recommend!

To wrap up this month's favorites I've got two words for you: Max Milner. This cute-as-a-button londoner has stolen my heart with his raspy voice and acoustic guitar, and his music has been blasting through my headphones all month, in particular All our lives. You should definitely check him out on youtube/iTunes to have a listen, especially if you like very Justin Nozuka/Ed Sheeran acoustic type music. Max doesn't have that many songs out, so there's only so much I can listen from him, which is why the rest of the time I've been hooked on my Tears for Fears Pandora station. It just plays all those catchy, new-wave 80s songs you know you've heard before (and love) but have no idea who sings them.

Well babes, there you have it all my August favorites. I hope the post was helpful in someway, after all that's why I'm here! Please let me know in the comments which have been some of your favorites this month, and if you have tried/been wanting to try any of the products mentioned.

Thanks for reading!

Evening Skincare Routine

Hello lovelies!

As promised, part deux (oohh look at me so cultured) of my skincare routine, you can catch up with part I here if you haven't already. As you can tell by the title, in today's post I'm going to breakdown step by step my evening routine and the products I use to take care of my complexion; contrary to my morning routine though, this one requires a little more time and products. I can only speak for myself, although I'm sure many of us are guilty, that I spend a good amount of time (and money) on makeup products that not only make me look better but also last a decent amount of time on my face, i.e. primers, foundations, mascaras, etc. Therefore, I believe it's only fair that I use the right types of products and take the time to remove my makeup thoroughly so that years from now my skin has a chance to look as good as Demi Moore's (one can only dream).
1- Removing Makeup. Now don't get lazy on me girls: Put down the wipes! Yes, they are very convenient/fast and I must admit I've been guilty of reaching for them on drunken nights, but in the long run they really aren't removing all of your makeup or helping your skin. I am a big big fan of cleansing balms, especially the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm and as of late, the Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel (even the names make me feel so much better than "makeup removing wipes"). Although they have different textures, both work the same way: I apply on dry skin, something that takes a while getting used to, massage all over the skin to breakdown all my makeup (including all my eye makeup), add just a smidge of warm water to help emulsify (turn into a "milky" consistency), and then remove with a towel or cloth that I ran under warm water. I can't even begin to explain how good and instantly relax my skin (and I) feel after removing all my makeup! To me, it's like the equivalent of slipping into a hot bath.
2- Cleanse. Now that all my makeup is off, I like to go in with a separate cleanser, which are actually the same ones I use in the morning. I use either Boscia Purifying Cleansing Gel or the Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash. Both are simple, easy to use gel cleansers, and they make my skin feel extra clean to prepare it for the next step.

3- Toner. After cleansing I follow up with the Clinique Clarifying Lotion 3, which is formulated for my skin type (there is also 1, 2, and 4). When you find the perfect one for your skin, toner is pretty much a "do it all" type of product: it removes and controls excess oil, tightens pores, helps reduce breakouts, and brightens/softens the complexion. I just pour some on a cotton pad, run it through my T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) where I am oiliest, and finish off the excess on the cheeks.
4- Serum. I know using an oil seems like something suited more for dry skin, but actually using the right oil helps balance out the skin, whether it is oily, sensitive, and even acne prone. I've spoken about the Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate before and I don't know who they have making this stuff, maybe Jesus, but overall it is an instant boost for my skin. It brightens it overnight and helps lock in the hydration from my night time moisturizer, making it more effective and helping my mornings look a little less scary every time I look in the mirror. If only I can say the same for my hair. Warning: the next two products are also from Kiehls, what can I say I love the brand, and if you want more details about any of them you can check out this post.

5- Moisturize. Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream is hands down the most incredible moisturizer I've used (I'm on my second tub). It is ultra hydrating and sinks into the skin beautifully. Next, I use a separate moisturizer for my under eye area: the Kiehls Creamy Under Eye Treatment with Avocado. I know it says "creamy" in its name, but this takes the cake for super ultra creamy. It is an unusual texture though, because it starts out very thick, but as you continue to dab in it turns into a very thin almost watery consistency. A little does go a long way with this one; I feel I don't need to buy another ever again.
6- Extras. Now, contrary to the products I just talked about, the next two products I use every other day or when needed. I love scrubs! I feel they are the easiest way to instantly smooth and brighten skin, but they can be abrasive, which is why I only use them after my cleanser every three days or on a day I feel extra grubby. Two of my favorites: Simple Skincare Smoothing Facial Scrub and the ridiculously expensive Kate Somerville Intensive Exfoliating Treatment.
My skin is not particularly acne prone, but I do get the odd hormonal spot every now and then, which is why I like to keep a spot treatment handy to keep the situation under control. The La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo is great because it's formulated with benzoyl peroxide, which I find to be better and stronger for blemishes than salicylic acid. I usually apply it after my serum, and before my moisturizer; it can also be used during the day, but I find using it once at night is enough for me.

Before I finish up the post, I wanted to give you a little tip when it comes to skin care product application. Always remember to allow a few seconds for each product to sink in before applying the next. And as for the order in which to apply, just remember to go from thinnest to thickest: toner (watery), serum (oil), and moisturizer (cream or gel).

I really hope these recent skincare posts have been helpful in some way, but as I've mentioned before skincare has to be suited for your own needs. It's important to identify your skin type (problem areas) and do a little bit of research, whether online or at a beauty counter. Also, skincare can be quite pricy, so try to get your hands on samples: never be afraid to ask for them! It's your money and if you can, you should make sure what you're purchasing will work for you. Please let me know in the comments which are some of you're skin care staples and how they've worked for you!

Daytime Skincare Routine

Hello lovelies!

After a week with no internet, I am back on the blogosphere and it feels oh so good! I've been wanting to do a skin care routine post for a while now because as cheesy and cliche as it might sound, it's what's underneath all the makeup that counts most. Most of us use makeup on a daily basis because we care about our appearance: "When you look good you feel good." When used properly, makeup can help hide (minor) imperfections and enhance our best features. Even so, whether you go all out with eyeshadows and contouring, or stick to the most minimal basics, taking care of your skin is crucial. After all, the better your skin looks and feels, the less makeup you need to use. In today's post I want to share my tried and true daytime skincare products and hopefully motivate you to start or keep up looking after your skin.

I don't know about the rest of you, but in the mornings I never feel truly awake until I splash some cold water on my face. Now, I don't go all Mommy Dearest and stick my face in ice water, but I do make time for three easy steps to make sure my skin feels fresh and ready for the day.
1- Cleanse. Fancy word for "wash your face" plain and simple. A little water and a little soap to clear my skin of any impurities/excess oils to start the day with a clean slate. I usually reach for the Boscia Purifying Cleansing Gel or the Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash, both which I've spoken about before and really like. They are both gel cleansers, lather really well, feel gentle on the skin, and leaves it feeling clean yet moisturized.

2- Protect. Perhaps the most important part before heading out the door is to apply some good'ol sunscreen. While catching some rays can make for a nice tan and glowing skin, over time they can also cause early wrinkles, enlarged pores, and worsen dark spots. I don't think any of us want to age like Donatella Versace, right? Didn't think so. Therefore, from now on facial sunscreens like the Kiehls Super Fluid UV Defense SPF are your new BFFs. I love this one because it is an SPF 50+ and feels super lightweight. It sinks into the skin very quickly, and leaves non of that normal SPF tackiness behind; since it is Kiehls ( a brand I love as evidenced here ) it's sensitive skin approved. Of course, you don't necessarily need to splurge on a SPF; the drugstore has many alternatives *cough* Neutrogena *cough* just make sure you don't skip the sunscreen each morning!

3- Moisturize. First allow me to point out how hard for me it is to write this paragraph given that I loathe the word 'moist' (it sends shivers down my spine). With that said, this is probably my favorite step because it instantly gives my skin the boost it needs to start off my day and also provides a smooth, healthy surface for my makeup. Whether your skin is oily, dry, combination, sensitive, acne prone, etc., there is a moisturizer (there go the shivers) out there for you; all it takes is a bit of research and testing what works best for you. Since I have combination skin, leaning more towards oily these days, I've been going for the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel.  The gel formula means it's very lightweight, which is perfect for oily skin, yet ultra hydrating. I also like to moisturize my under eye area with the Burt's Bees Sensitive Eye Cream, which not only helps reduce any puffiness, but also makes my concealer apply so much smoother. Every now and then I'll switch to the Clinique All About Eyes Serum De-Puffing Eye Massage, or if I'm feeling a little DIY, I'll just grab two spoons, leave them in the freezer for a few minutes, and then place them over my eyes.

I know there are other skincare steps to take into consideration in the morning, a.k.a. a toner and a serum, but with my skin I've learned the simpler the better. If I overload my face with too many products, it can get irritated or my makeup doesn't apply/wear well during the day. Even though skincare has to be adjusted to your own unique needs, I hope today's post was helpful in some way and perhaps has encouraged you to take better care of that pretty face. Let me know in the comments which are some of your favorite morning skincare products, and make sure you come back on Thursday because I'll be sharing my evening skincare routine! Freshening Up

Hello lovelies!

Let's face it, no matter how long lasting a makeup product claims to be, there comes a time during the day when we need to freshen up. Whether it's because you are starting to get oily (my case), or walking around all day has caused your makeup to fade, or you're finally having drinks with that guy you've been flirting with and (of course Murphy's Law) you don't have time to put on a full face, retouching your makeup during the day is inevitable. Personally, it gives me peace of mind knowing that I have a few beauty bits with me just in case...

1. First thing is first (I'm the realest): Get rid of the excess oil. Even though they are kinda gross after you are done, I've always gone for blotting papers. TATCHA Aburatorigami Japanese Beauty Papers (yeah, don't even try to pronounce that) are the best ones I've tried so far. They are pricy for oil blotting papers, but worth it because they are natural, powder free, don't disturb my makeup, and leave my face feeling like a  fresh semi-clean canvas.

2. Concealer fixes all. I'm not one to carry around foundation with me, so if at any point during the day my dark circles or any blemishes start to creep through, I go straight for the concealer. I prefer to use one that is creamy, easy to blend with my fingers, and has a doe-foot applicator so I can really get into my inner eye corner (where I tend to get the most darkness). You can of course use which ever concealer you prefer, but I use NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer or (for a more budget friendly option) the L'Oreal True Match Concealer. If things are still looking a bit too oily, I powder my T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) with a mattifying powder, and it's usually the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder.

3. A little liner goes a long way. Now that the skin has been taken care of, it's time to open up the eyes. To define those lashes skip that mascara and instead go for a black liner to tightline. Adding on mascara can actually weigh down your eyes more and can end up looking flaky; and  I know tightlining feels weird, but applying a black liner on your upper waterline adds definition and thickens up the lash line. For this I like to use Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Eye Pencil, which glides on very creamy and really sticks to the waterline, or the L'oreal Silkissime Pencil Eye Liner, which works just as well but isn't as long lasting. Next, go for a nude (or white if you are very fair) liner on the bottom waterline to open up the eyes and counteract any redness or any mascara that might have run during the day. Honestly, a nude liner makes a big difference when it comes to brightening and opening up the eyes, so give them a try if you haven't already. I am a big fan of the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Eyeliner in 'Nude'.

4. Don't be afraid to highlight. It is probably the easiest and fastest way to brighten up your whole face if it's beginning to look dull; and the good thing is you can use the same product for both eyes and face. Two of my favorites: the cult classic MAC MSF in 'Soft & Gentle' or for an easier-to-carry-around option Stila Eyeshadow in 'Kitten' ( L'Oreal Infallible Eye Shadow in 'Iced Latte' is very similar). Dab either one on the inner corner of your eyes and on top of  your cheekbones and done! Instantly brighter complexion.

5. Perfect the Pout. Applying a little bit of lip color makes you look and feel more put together and polished. Whether you rather go bold with a daring red like MAC Lady Danger or prefer a more subtle, nude shade, never skip the lips! Lately, I've been wearing either my new favorite nude-combo, MAC Lip Pencil in 'Whirl' with MAC Velvet Teddy, or the super easy to use NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in 'Walkyrie'.

6. Spritz Spritz. Finish off with a refreshing mist or setting spray to make sure everything sets and blends together nicely, and most importantly you don't look caky ('cause nobody wants that!) You can go for something herbal, minty, and refreshing like the Caudalie Beauty Elixir or something that sets makeup and guarantees its longevity like the MAC Fix+ (both are available in travel size so they are not only easier to carry around, but more affordable as well).

Well my beauties, that's all we have time for today. I hope some of these tips were useful in some way. Please let me know in the comments which littles tricks you use to stay looking fresh during a long day! Currently Loving

Hello lovelies!

I know I just did my monthly favorites, but I've been picking up a few (OK more than a few) things here and there to give them a whirl, and I'm happy to say that I've found some gems.

- L'Oreal Sleek It Strand Smoother Serum-Spray has been absolutely incredible on my hair! As you might know by now, I blowout my hair on a weekly basis, and this spray has been amazing at leaving my hair feeling so soft, smooth, and shiny. Plus, it really does helps out with the whole frizz situation AND smells great, so  if you're cuddling with that special (or maybe not so special someone) they are really going to appreciate it (wink wink*). I really recommend you guys give this one a try.
- NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in "Walkyrie" has not left my lips since I bought it; seriously, aside from lip balm, I haven't used anything else! Thanks to Kylie Jenner, the whole 90s-cindy-crawford-supermodel-makeup is having a major comeback, and although she is not my #1 Kardashian, her makeup (her lip color especially ) has been on point. I never really thought I could pull of a brown lip, but after I found this muddy-red-brown I realized what I've been missing out on. It's one of those shades you don't have to think about, you just slap it on and it goes with any makeup look and is perfect for any occasion. I also really love the formula: matte, yet creamy, and very long lasting.
*P.S. This isn't the exact color Kylie Jenner goes for, this color just really suits my skin tone. If you want a closer match to her lips, I'd go with MAC lip liner in Whirl with MAC Velvet Teddy lipstick.
- Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet Foundation is second skin in a bottle. If there is one makeup product Chanel has got nailed down, it's their foundations (see Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation). I've had this for a while now, but haven't used it in quite some time because lately I've been skipping foundation all together. But, when that time of the month comes along, my skin (and body, and brain) can't help but go a little crazy, and this foundation has been a savior. It feels very light on the skin, yet still provides enough coverage to correct any uneven skin tones, redness, and blemishes. It is a matte formula, which keeps my oily skin under control, as well as a liquid to powder formula, which means it blends very easily and I don't need to set it with a powder (#lazygirlproblems).
- Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Shadows are a new release for the brand, and I am loving! They have a wide color selection (30 shades), but the drugstores I've visited don't carry them all, so the hunt continues. They are really easy to blend, and don't go on super intense so you can build them up, which I actually prefer sometimes because you get the exact amount of color you want, it looks more natural, and lasts longer. So far I've picked up "Bella Sand" and "Bella Caffé". Bella Sand (my favorite) is a b-e-a-utiful nude-champagne with gold under tones. I've been using it (errr-day) all over my eyelids to add a natural wash of color and since it has a subtle shimmer, it brightens and opens up my eyes perfectly! Bella Caffé is a standard matte brown perfect to apply on the crease to add some depth, which is how I've been using it, but you can also use it as a liner or even a brow powder. But, the best thing about these is that they're $4!
- Clinique Cheek Pop  in the shade "Ginger Pop" has been my go-to blush, and has  the most unique formula I've come across in a blush. I don't know how to explain it, so I apologize in advance. It feels and applies like a standard powder, but on the skin it looks like a cream blush. It blends so seamlessly with the rest of my makeup and looks incredibly natural and glowy. Plus, I think it has the cutest packaging!

Please let me know in the comments (or on my social media) what beauty goodies you have been loving lately, or if you have tried any of the products mentioned and how they've worked out for you.

Save Your Pennies

Hello lovelies!

It's no surprise to anyone that I'm a beauty product junkie, after all that's why I'm here. Sometimes I come across products that are seriously thebomb.com, and other times I come across some that were just a complete waste of my hard earned pennies. Considering the amount of products I buy, I feel the disappointing products list isn't that long, but even so I'd like to throw in a little disclaimer before we begin. Not all the products I talk about in today's post are completely horrendous, actually some are quite good according to some of my favorite bloggers, but they just really didn't work out well for me and my needs. Everyone's skin and beauty preferences are different, so just because something didn't work for me it doesn't mean it won't work for you. With that said, let's get started.

Garnier Miracle Skin Cream Is one of those products that I actually really did like, but it completely irritated my skin (itchy rash) especially on my cheek-bone area. It is one of those really cool products that comes out a white cream and as you blend it on to the skin it changes into the color of your skin tone to give the slightest amount of color and even out your complexion. On top of that it really does tighten your skin and provides sun protection (SPF 20). I really like these types of products, especially in the hotter months, but my skin really didn't get along with it. Tarter Sauce!

Simple Radiance Cleansing Wipes I wish I didn't have to include in this post because you guys know how much I've been loving the brand, but I'm not a fan of these towelettes ("wipes" reminds me of dirty diapers and toilets). They have a quilted texture, which I wouldn't ordinarily mind, but it makes them very scratchy especially if you use them around the eyes. I much prefer the regular Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes: nice, soft, and leave my complexion feeling clean & fresh. I have to clarify, though, that neither of the towelettes are good at removing makeup (no where in the packaging does it say that's what they're meant for); they are, as the name suggest, meant for cleansing the face. If you are looking into makeup removing towelettes from the drugstore, I recommend the Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes.

Estee Lauder Gentle Eye Makeup Remover Perhaps might be a little too gentle because it did not get it done for me at all. Not very good at taking off my eye-makeup, especially my mascara, and I don't even use waterproof! If you want to invest on an eye makeup remover, I'd recommend the Clarins Instant Eye Makeup Remover, or if you want something more affordable you can always go for L'Oreal Eye Makeup Remover or Bioderma.

Clarins Toning Lotion (with Iris for combination/oily skin) Is yet another skin product that I liked but my skin  didn't, as it completely irritated it. I like the scent and I like how clean and fresh my skin felt afterwards, and as it is Clarins I really can't speak too bad about it because I love the brand. Damn you sensitive skin! Since this skincare fail, I've been using two sensitive skin approved products: Clinique Clarifying Lotion as well as the La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water.

Bumble and Bumble Straight Blow Dry Is meant to be a heat-activated balm to accelerate the whole dreaded blow-out process and tame frizz, but for me it was a big'ol mess! It left my hair so dry, and I mean haystack-desert-tumble-weed dry. It was just awful! If you have naturally curly hair and blow dry it like me, I'd recommend the Alterna Perfect Blowout Creme or the Paul Mitchell Straightworks.

Makeup Forever Full Cover Concealer Is one very hyped up product, but I just don't get it! I take my concealers very seriously mainly because of my dark circles, and although I heard it wasn't the best for dark circles I decided to give it a try anyway: I figured if it didn't work out for my dark circles it would still be useful for the rest of my face. Negative. I despise this formula. It comes out of the tube pretty creamy, but it is SO drying when you work it into the skin, and I don't think it's good for layering either since it tends to go caky and settle in fine lines. I've tried this with my fingers, with a brush, I blend, I dab, and it's horrible each time. It's drying under my eyes, it's drying on the rest of my face, which I find funny (not really) since my skin is oily, overall just bad. I would go to Sephora and return it, but I threw away the box. Learn from my mistake ladies, never throw away the box!

Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick I have a very strong love-hate relationship with. The shades (I own three: Icon, Muse, and Riviera) in this line are absolutely gorgeous! There is not one dud in the bunch, they do go on super opaque on the first swipe, and the packaging is beautiful (of course, it is Hourglass). Even so, I find the formula very heavy/drying, and it tends to settle in the fine lines on my lips making them feel even drier. Reapplication is a PAIN: You pretty much have to clean off any residue because if you don't it goes on really flaky, and it's just a big'ol mess (not a good option if you're going to be eating or drinking). I'm also not a fan of the applicator: It's kind of flimsy and I like lip color applicators to be sturdy for more control when applying. I think for $28 Hourglass could develop a better formula, and maybe pack in some more product in there (you honestly don't get a whole lot), so until then no more Opaque Rouge purchases for me.

Well guys that's the end of the disappointing products road (see they weren't that many), I'm sorry this wasn't the most positive of posts, but I do feel I have to be completely honest if I don't like a product. Again, these are just my opinions. Just because they didn't work for me it doesn't mean they won't work for you, so if you saw something you still really want to try, please don't let me stop you. Let me know in the comments or in social media (links below) of any products that just didn't get it done for you or if you have tried any of the products mentioned.
