Save Your Pennies

Hello lovelies!

It's no surprise to anyone that I'm a beauty product junkie, after all that's why I'm here. Sometimes I come across products that are seriously thebomb.com, and other times I come across some that were just a complete waste of my hard earned pennies. Considering the amount of products I buy, I feel the disappointing products list isn't that long, but even so I'd like to throw in a little disclaimer before we begin. Not all the products I talk about in today's post are completely horrendous, actually some are quite good according to some of my favorite bloggers, but they just really didn't work out well for me and my needs. Everyone's skin and beauty preferences are different, so just because something didn't work for me it doesn't mean it won't work for you. With that said, let's get started.

Garnier Miracle Skin Cream Is one of those products that I actually really did like, but it completely irritated my skin (itchy rash) especially on my cheek-bone area. It is one of those really cool products that comes out a white cream and as you blend it on to the skin it changes into the color of your skin tone to give the slightest amount of color and even out your complexion. On top of that it really does tighten your skin and provides sun protection (SPF 20). I really like these types of products, especially in the hotter months, but my skin really didn't get along with it. Tarter Sauce!

Simple Radiance Cleansing Wipes I wish I didn't have to include in this post because you guys know how much I've been loving the brand, but I'm not a fan of these towelettes ("wipes" reminds me of dirty diapers and toilets). They have a quilted texture, which I wouldn't ordinarily mind, but it makes them very scratchy especially if you use them around the eyes. I much prefer the regular Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes: nice, soft, and leave my complexion feeling clean & fresh. I have to clarify, though, that neither of the towelettes are good at removing makeup (no where in the packaging does it say that's what they're meant for); they are, as the name suggest, meant for cleansing the face. If you are looking into makeup removing towelettes from the drugstore, I recommend the Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes.

Estee Lauder Gentle Eye Makeup Remover Perhaps might be a little too gentle because it did not get it done for me at all. Not very good at taking off my eye-makeup, especially my mascara, and I don't even use waterproof! If you want to invest on an eye makeup remover, I'd recommend the Clarins Instant Eye Makeup Remover, or if you want something more affordable you can always go for L'Oreal Eye Makeup Remover or Bioderma.

Clarins Toning Lotion (with Iris for combination/oily skin) Is yet another skin product that I liked but my skin  didn't, as it completely irritated it. I like the scent and I like how clean and fresh my skin felt afterwards, and as it is Clarins I really can't speak too bad about it because I love the brand. Damn you sensitive skin! Since this skincare fail, I've been using two sensitive skin approved products: Clinique Clarifying Lotion as well as the La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water.

Bumble and Bumble Straight Blow Dry Is meant to be a heat-activated balm to accelerate the whole dreaded blow-out process and tame frizz, but for me it was a big'ol mess! It left my hair so dry, and I mean haystack-desert-tumble-weed dry. It was just awful! If you have naturally curly hair and blow dry it like me, I'd recommend the Alterna Perfect Blowout Creme or the Paul Mitchell Straightworks.

Makeup Forever Full Cover Concealer Is one very hyped up product, but I just don't get it! I take my concealers very seriously mainly because of my dark circles, and although I heard it wasn't the best for dark circles I decided to give it a try anyway: I figured if it didn't work out for my dark circles it would still be useful for the rest of my face. Negative. I despise this formula. It comes out of the tube pretty creamy, but it is SO drying when you work it into the skin, and I don't think it's good for layering either since it tends to go caky and settle in fine lines. I've tried this with my fingers, with a brush, I blend, I dab, and it's horrible each time. It's drying under my eyes, it's drying on the rest of my face, which I find funny (not really) since my skin is oily, overall just bad. I would go to Sephora and return it, but I threw away the box. Learn from my mistake ladies, never throw away the box!

Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick I have a very strong love-hate relationship with. The shades (I own three: Icon, Muse, and Riviera) in this line are absolutely gorgeous! There is not one dud in the bunch, they do go on super opaque on the first swipe, and the packaging is beautiful (of course, it is Hourglass). Even so, I find the formula very heavy/drying, and it tends to settle in the fine lines on my lips making them feel even drier. Reapplication is a PAIN: You pretty much have to clean off any residue because if you don't it goes on really flaky, and it's just a big'ol mess (not a good option if you're going to be eating or drinking). I'm also not a fan of the applicator: It's kind of flimsy and I like lip color applicators to be sturdy for more control when applying. I think for $28 Hourglass could develop a better formula, and maybe pack in some more product in there (you honestly don't get a whole lot), so until then no more Opaque Rouge purchases for me.

Well guys that's the end of the disappointing products road (see they weren't that many), I'm sorry this wasn't the most positive of posts, but I do feel I have to be completely honest if I don't like a product. Again, these are just my opinions. Just because they didn't work for me it doesn't mean they won't work for you, so if you saw something you still really want to try, please don't let me stop you. Let me know in the comments or in social media (links below) of any products that just didn't get it done for you or if you have tried any of the products mentioned.

Thanks for reading!
