Hello lovelies!
July is over people, and I'm not even going to bother saying where did the month go because I think we're all on the same boat with how fast the summer has gone by (as it always does). As per usual, end of the month means breaking down my beauty and non beauty favorites of the month, and make sure you stick to the end for this one because I'm going to get you hooked on the most amazing show ever! But let's start with the beauty.
Makeup
I don't know about you guys, but I can describe this summer in one word: H-O-T. I think I was born in the wrong country because I hate hot weather/sweating! I've been looking for any excuse to go to the mall, or the movies, or even an ice cold shower just to escape the heat. It's also made me want to skip any type of foundation and go for the most minimal makeup because I feel it will all melt off anyway whilst I'm in satan's layer.
- Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer in 'Neutralizer'. I have spoken about the 'Brightener' shade before and how it's perfect for counteracting dark circles, but this one is perfect for highlighting the under eye area and making it look like you have had 12 hours of sleep. It has a very yellow undertone which is perfect for my skin tone, it's very creamy, and blends seamlessly with whatever concealer I used before hand to cover up my dark circles.
- MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in 'Soft & Gentle' is a cult classic with good reason. It is an absolutely beautiful highlight! Since I've been skipping on blush/bronzer as well, I just swipe some of this magic dust on my cheek bones, brow bone, and nose for a one step summer glow.
- Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in 'Trooper'. You may remember that I spoke about this a few posts back saying that it was good but I still preferred the Stila liquid liner, but I'm going to have to eat my words here guys because I love this just as much if not more *GASP*. I also made the mistake of saying it has a felt tip, but it doesn't. Although Kat Von D does have a felt tip liquid liner, this one is actually a brush tip, which means that you still get the precision, but as time passes the tip won't bend as it tends to do with felt tip liners. Most importantly it stays put all day, even under the summer heat.
As for lips, I've been all about Revlon this month: I went back to an old favorite and tried out a recent launch that I've fallen in love with. Lip Butter in 'Candy Apple' will always be one of my favorites. It is perfect for an everyday, light wash of red and it leaves my lips feeling extra moisturized. As for Revlon's latest launch, the ColorStay Moisture Stain, all I can say is, "Uhhh-mazing!" I've never tried a lip product like this before. It's super light, literally feels like putting water on your lips, yet they go on really opaque and shiny. I don't find that they last a ridiculous amount of time, but they are very easy to reapply; and the more you do the more it leaves behind a stain on your lips. I've been wearing the shade 'Parisian Passion' nonstop this past month.
Skincare
The main reason I've been able to skip any type of foundation is because my skin has been really good lately, and I owe it to the Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash and the Simple Smoothing Facial Scrub. Simple is a relatively new brand at the drugstore, but wow is it amazing! I've been using the Facial Wash day/night and I've really noticed a difference in the brightness of my skin, plus it leaves it feeling clean and fresh without striping it dry. The scrub I use every other day (I find scrubs too harsh to use daily) and it has really helped even out my skin tone, remove dirt/excess oils, and brighten my skin. They are both just amazing and are exactly what it says on the bottle: "Simple Goodness". Overall, I'm really happy to have found such a good, yet affordable skincare line, and I 100% recommend. If you do wish to try the brand, make sure to follow them on social media (especially twitter) because they post coupons quite frequently. Get them discounts!
Haircare
Ever since I got back from New York, my hair has been feeling so dry, but thankfully I've been using several products that have helped bring it back to life.
- Tresemme Keratin Smooth Shampoo & Conditioner have been great at taming frizz and making my blow dry smoother and shinier, especially in the summer heat.
- L'Oreal Power Moisture Rush Mask. I didn't think I would like this mask all that much because it has a very light consistency, and I like my masks to be very thick (for some reason I feel they moisturize more), but hello amazing! It really injected my hair with the moisture it was lacking, left it feeling ultra soft, plus it smells incredible.
- Alterna Caviar Perfect Blowout Creme has been key to my ultra sleek blowouts. I have been using it differently though: Instead of applying it while my hair is damp, I apply it after I blow dry and before I flat iron. I kid you not when I say my hair feels so incredibly soft and looks so shiny from root to tip. It has been a game changer by far!
That does it for all the beauty favorites of the month. Now I want to move on to my favorite out of all the favorites, and I'm not joking when I say it has consumed all of my time and attention this month: Sons of Anarchy. I know I'm really late to the party (it first aired in 2008), but better late than never. "Jesus Christ" this is the most amazing show ever-ever! And as an added bonus the music is amazing, especially if you are into blues-rock. The moment I started watching it I could not stop; I just kept going and going until I would realize it was 5am and had to forcefully shut my eyes. It is so addicting that I finished all six seasons in one week (no exaggeration, although I wish it was).
It's a drama series about a motorcycle gang dedicated to the selling and distribution of illegal guns, and all the problems they face on a daily basis: wars with other gangs/drug cartels, trying to stay out of prison, making deals with the police, love, family, etc. Every single episode keeps you on your toes: "Are they going to kill him? Are they going to get caught this time? Omg who is dying today? What is this one up to now?!" It never ends! It's bloody, it makes you laugh, it makes you mad, it makes you cry (oh you cry!). And if the theme doesn't interest you, then the main character, Jackson aka Jax (played by Charlie Hunnam), will. Those blonde locks, that perfect facial hair, that perfect grin, those big blue eyes, that incredibly deep, manly voice--hello gorgeous and ovary explosion!
OK, I'm forcing myself to stop typing now (I can talk about this all day). Just please do yourself a favor and watch Sons of Anarchy. I apologize in advance if it consumes your life like it did mine.
Last, but not least, is my music favorite of the month courtesy of Jagwar Ma and their album Howlin (you can check out one of the songs I've had on repeat here). Their music is very upbeat/happy mixed in with psychedelic goodness, perfect for every mood whether I'm getting ready, jamming in my car, or just lounging in my room. If you're into MGMT/Empire of the Sun I'm sure you'll love them too. Plus they are from Australia which grants them 10+ coolness points in my book.
Well guys, that is it for this month's favorites. As always I hope it was helpful in some way. Please let me know in the comments if you have tried or want to try any of the things mentioned and any other thoughts/opinions you might have. Don't be shy! If you do decide to try any of the products let me know by tagging me in any social media pics, all of mine are linked down below.
Thanks for reading!
